Approaching from a narrow curving drive, 30 feet above the home: gently sweeping roof forms influenced by Asian pavilions, integral landscaped gardens, and breathtaking mountain views become your first glimpse of this 3800 s.f. beachfront home.
The exterior is detailed with a natural palette of stained vertical cedar, stucco, open glazing, and copper gutters concealed in sweeping overhangs. Peeled cedar logs resting on large boulders replace corner walls to bring the landscaping into the home through corner windows. The home abuts a restored stream bed, with pools scattered upstream through the landscape, conceived and built by a leading Japanese garden designer in the Northwest.
The home is entered through an open pavilion over a reflecting pool to the primary living space. This skylit great room is shared by living, kitchen, and dining areas in a large open space with floor to ceiling glass flowing to a stone terrace and the waterfront beyond. The home is broken into public and private areas including guest suites that wrap around landscaped gardens to integrate the exterior with the interior and provide focal points throughout.
The kitchen is open and highly finished with no upper cabinets to obstruct views or natural light. Additional space is located behind the main kitchen to provide gourmet amenities for simple day to day dining. The master suite opens from the great room through antique Asian doors on axis with a large boulder that is the backdrop of a large open shower. The master bedroom opens out to a private terrace and hot tub on the beach.
This residence was not only conceived as a comfortable home on the water, but created to invite and entertain guests with a relaxing stay in an open-air beachfront retreat.
